Pictured: one ounce carrot puree
Introduce all baby foods one at a time. After four days of baby successfully eating one new food, a new food may be mixed with the old.
Stage 1: 6 months
- carrot
- sweet potato
- rutabaga
- parsnip
Stage 2: 6-9 months
- beets
- turnips
- onions (blend this with other vegetables baby likes)
- garlic (blend this with other vegetables baby likes)
- 1-2 root vegetables, peeled and chopped*
- water
- opt: real unsalted butter*
- Place vegetables in pot and add just enough water to cover. Bring to a boil over med heat, reduce to a low simmer, and let cook 8-15 min.
- Drain vegetables but reserve cooking water. Add to a blender with 1-2 T cooking water.
- Blend to desired consistency, making sure to blend out all chunks. Add optional butter* and more of the cooking water as necessary.
- If desired, thicken your puree with baby cereal as long as your baby has already been introduced to cereal.
- Freeze or refrigerate extra baby food.
