Steamed Peas for Baby

Original recipe from Annabel Karmel's book Top 100 Baby Purees.

Stage 2: 6 -9 months

Ingredients:
  • 1 1/2 c peas, fresh or frozen (frozen package shouldn't have any salt or other additives)
  • water
  • opt: real unsalted butter
 Directions:
  1. Stove: Place peas in pot and add 1-2 T water.  Cook on low 4-8 min (preferred for fresh).
  2. Microwave: Alternatively, omit water and microwave until tender (preferred for frozen).  
  3. Drain peas but reserve the cooking water. 
  4. Blend to desired consistency, adding reserved water as necessary.  Blend out all chunks (including small bits of skin).  Add optional butter.
  5. If desired, thicken your puree with baby cereal as long as your baby has already been introduced to cereal.  Peas mix well with most other vegetables.  
  6. Freeze or refrigerate extra baby food.
