Frosting! (for any occasion)

Original recipe from family.

Good on cinnamon rollssugar cookies, ice cream, fruit, graham crackers...anything!

Basic Ingredients:
  • 1/2 c softened butter
  • 2 c powdered sugar (or more to desired consistency)
  • 1/2 t vanilla (or half vanilla, half maple extract)
  • opt: 2 T milk
Vanilla Frosting:

Beat together butter and sugar, beat in vanilla and milk.

Chocolate Frosting:

Mix 1/2 c cocoa powder with sugar before blending with butter.  Follow directions as usual, vanilla and milk optional.

Chocolate Peanut Butter Frosting:

Mix 1/2 c cocoa powder with sugar. Blend 1/2 c peanut butter with butter.  Beat together with remaining ingredients, vanilla and milk optional.

Cream Cheese Frosting:

Blend 1/2 c (4 oz) softened cream cheese with butter.  Follow directions as usual, doubling vanilla if desired.

For Fruity Frosting, here.

For all recipes: beating the butter with the sugar takes a while by hand, especially when cocoa powder is involved.  Just keep at it.  Eventually you'll see some darker spots where the powders are moistening and in a few quick beats it will be the frosting of your dreams.  :)
