Chocolate Cream Cheese Dessert

Original recipe from family, also known as Mississippi Mud. Sorry, this is one of those desserts.  Don't make it if you don't like the idea of eating 5 servings.

Ingredients:
Crust:
  • 2 c flour
  • 1 c real butter
  • 1/4 c powder sugar
  • 1/2 c finely chopped pecans or walnuts, opt
First Layer:
  • 1 pkg (8 oz) cream cheese (softened)
  • 1 c powder sugar
  • 1 (8 oz) tub cool whip
Second Layer:
  • 5.9 oz pkg chocolate or pistachio pudding
  • 2 1/3 c milk
Third Layer:
  • 1 (8 oz) tub cool whip
Directions (layered):
  1. Crust: preheat oven to 350. In a stand mixer, beat butter until smooth and creamy. Beat in remaining crust ingredients (will be a tad crumbly).  Press onto cookie sheet.  Crust will be thin; use a floured rolling pin if necessary.  Bake 10-12 min or until crisp and barely browned. Cool. Alternatively, make an oreo cookie crust.
  2. First Layer: beat cream cheese. Beat in powdered sugar until well mixed. Beat in cool whip. Drop small spoonfuls across crust and spread carefully over crust.
  3. Second Layer: whisk together pudding and milk and spread over second layer.
  4. Third Layer: Spread cool whip over all. Sprinkle with walnut bits if desired.
Directions (dump):
  1. Follow directions for crust, or make an oreo cookie crust. Crumble crust and set aside.
  2. Follow directions for first and second layers, folding cream cheese mixture together with pudding. Dish into individual servings if desired.
  3. Garnish individual servings with a dollop of cool whip, crumbled crust or oreos, and gummy worms if desired.
