Original recipe from A Year of Slow Cooking.
Ingredients:
- 1 T olive oil
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 c carrots & celery, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 c (16 oz) dried split peas
- 5 c water
- 1 T bouillon
- 1/2 t garlic salt or salt
- 1/2 t pepper
- bacon bits to taste, opt
- Rinse split peas.
- In a medium pan over medium heat, warm oil. Saute veg 5 min. Add remaining ingredeints and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low and simmer 40-60 minutes.
- Combine in crock pot. Cook on low 8-10 ours or high 4-6. Serve with fresh bread.
