Life's Journey

Today I start a new addition to this little blog of mine. Beyond recipe sharing and organization, I hope to use this space as an accessible reservoir of stories that I wish to pass on to my little ones--stories about me, my "explorations" and my "discoveries."

I like to think of life as one long journey--a hike or a pilgrimage from one location to an entirely new one. We're never not walking, though sometimes we're wandering.  We each walk it individually, from our very own start to our very own finish. At some legs of our journey, we have company. The family we are born into is our direct company for many years. The family(s) we create are also of that nature. Friends, committee members, coworkers, and acquaintances come and go, and yet they do walk with us. We share meals and warmth, ideas and support, and the experience of walking that path at that time together. Can you see us, lined up along a trail in our well-worn boots, backpacks strapped on and clanking with the sound of gear hanging from the straps? The path branches and splits; some of us go one way, some another, new travelers join us.

We each see many people and many scenes throughout our excursion. Our lifelong walk is the opportunity to touch and taste beauty--beauty that has the power to gladden hearts and remind us how and why to share that kind of goodness in return. Mountains can be magnificent or they can be foreboding, but they are still there, a part of our journey. Do I see them? Am I present, experiencing this moment gifted to me to simply walk?

I have chosen to love this journey of life. I don't have anywhere else to be but here, now, walking my walk with those I've been given during this chapter. I share lots of space today with my children and husband, but in a few short years that space will diminish. How am I using the time I have with them today?

When we can no longer walk next to each other, the stories of our adventures (as individual as they are) can be deeply connecting and empowering.

I hope to share organized glimpses for my children to easily access as thy grow--glimpses of their mother; who she is; why she made certain choices and how they panned out; systems and how-tos that she developed. I hope for them to know what inspired me and how I used that inspiration in my journey, one step after another. Posts of this nature are filed under the tag "endeavors."
